New to running a Minecraft server? If your server won't start and you're seeing errors like "You need to agree to the EULA" in the console logs, don't worry — it's a super common first-time hiccup. Minecraft requires you to accept Mojang's End User License Agreement (EULA) before the server can run. It's like saying "I agree" to their rules for hosting.
This guide is tailored for beginners — we'll walk through why this happens and how to fix it in under 3 minutes. No coding required!
Why is this happening?
- First startup things: When you first deploy a new Minecraft server, it generates a files called eula.txt with eula=false by default.
- Safety check: The server won't start until you change it to true - this confirms you've read and agree to Mojang's terms. (Basically, no selling in-game items for real money, etc.)
- Error signs: In the panel console, look for messages like:
"Failed to start: You need to agree to the EULA in order to run the server. Go to eula.txt for more info."
Quick read: Check out the full EULA here before agreeing - its short!
Step 1: Log in to your panel
- Go to our game panel (https://panel.lunarracks.com)
- Log in with your email and password.
- Click on your server from the list.
- or log in to My Rack (https://my.lunarracks.com)
- Go to your server.
- Click the Server Overview.
- Click on GO TO CONTROL PANEL.
Tip: If it's your first server, it'll be right there - easy peasy!
Step 2: Stop the server
- Go to the Console tab.
- If its "Starting" or "Running" click on the Stop button.
- Wait for the "Offline" status.
Why? You cant edit files while the server's active - avoids glitches.
Step 3: Edit the EULA File
- Restart the server and wait for the prompt
- From the Console tab.
- Click the Start button (keep the console window open).
- After ~10-15 seconds you'll receive an "Accept Minecraft EULA" popup.
- Click I Accept from the popup.
- Watch the logs - it should boot up without any EULA errors!
- Once it says "Done", connect to your Minecraft server (using your ip:port).
- Edit the EULA file:
- Click the Files tab.
- Look for the eula.txt file in the main folder (may need to scroll)
- Click on eula.txt to open the bult-in editor.
- Find the line:
eula=false - Change it to:
eula=true - Click Save Content
- Back to the Console tab
- Click the Start button
- Watch the logs - it should boot up without any EULA errors!
- Once it says "Done", connect to your Minecraft server (using your ip:port).
Pro Tip: If eula.txt isn't there, start the server once (it'll fail but create the file). Then stop and server and edit it.
What if it still won't start?
| Issue | Fix |
| No eula.txt | Restart once to generate it, then edit it. |
| Permission denied | Ask us! - might need a shared user with permissions |
| Other errors | Check the console for clues (e.g. wrong Java version? Edit the Startup tab) |
| Popup missing? | Some panels skip it- the manual edit always works. |
Bonus: Prevent future issues
- Auto-backups: Set them up now (check out automated backups guide) - protect your world from day one.
- Read the EULA: Seriously, its quick and keeps you legal.

| Step | Action |
